Ho Chi Minh Airport also known as Tan Son Nhat International Airport, is the largest airport in Vietnam. It is located 4 miles (6 km) north of the center (District 1) of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Tan Son Nhat International Airport operates from two terminal buildings – Domestic Terminal 1 and International Terminal 2. If this is your first time here there is an official taxi rank on the left side from the exit of Arrivals. The problem with taxis in cities that you don’t know well is obviously that you can be taken for an excessively convoluted ride and be charged for that increased distance. So today we are going to show you the best way to get from the airport to the city center: Shuttle bus.
Yellow shuttle bus #109 is a new modern bus with plenty of space for your luggage. An extra plus is that the staff generally speaks some basic English. The bus leaves every 15 to 20 minutes between 5:30am and 1:30am from Column 12 (International Terminal) or Column 18 (Domestic Terminal). The end station is Park 23/9, but the bus also passes Pham Ngu Lao (backpacker street) and Ben Thanh Bus station.
Tell the bus driver where you want to go and expect to pay 20.000 VND (€0,80) for a ticket to District 1 and 12.000 VND (€0,50) for short distances under 5km. The bus ride takes about 45 minutes, depending on the traffic.
